Let's eat: 3 styles of white tableware

White, boring? Not at all. White exudes classic elegance. Calm and clean, it's the ideal base for a beautiful table setting, finished off with your own personal touch. Think of combinations with colour, greenery, glassware and natural materials. Porcelain or earthenware? You choose what suits you and your table best, from the crockery to the styling. 1. Variations of white

Yes, white is a safe choice. But that doesn't mean it has to be boring. A neutral base just gives you endless possibilities. Go for timeless chic with the grey-white Alanah set in combination with wood, green and natural materials; or for a welcoming Mediterranean vibe with the Jille collection in fine ceramic, blue colour accents and lots of glassware; or for a carefree festive atmosphere with the handmade Di Mare set with striking red patterns and nonchalant table linen.

2. Porcelain or earthenware

A beautiful table setting is great, but ask yourself what material best suits your table habits. Porcelain is fired at very high temperatures of 1300 to 1500 degrees, making it extremely strong and non-porous, so it's ideal for intensive use. But it's also lightweight, nice to hold in your hand, dishwasher-safe and easy to clean. It comes almost exclusively in shades of white, and in different qualities. The luxury New Bone China of our Cathy set, for instance, is even stronger than regular porcelain.

Earthenware is fired at slightly lower temperatures, so it's a little softer. But the protective glaze makes it extremely scratch-resistant, and it's available in a wide variety of shades and textures. Ceramics are often a little heavier and great heat conductors, so they're ideal for reheating dishes or keeping them warm. Can it go in the dishwasher? Absolutely, but it's best to dry it off right away in order to preserve its quality.

3. Make it you

White tableware is like a white canvas: you decide what your table will look like. With the right styling, you can add a personal touch to any dinner party. Think striking napkins, quirky cutlery sets, colourful glasses, or fresh flowers in statement vases. But you can also decorate with large wind lights, coloured candles, or contrasting placemats.

pick a theme

First, pick a clear theme or colour palette and then look for the right combinations. Keep in mind, though, that the food you'll be serving also adds colour and texture. Make sure it doesn't get lost in too much clutter – because as they say, you eat with your eyes first. Bon appétit!
